A man has died after becoming trapped between two lorries at a Toyota plant.

Derbyshire Police were called to the car maker's site in Burnaston at 12.40am.

The 56-year-old lorry driver, who has not yet been named, was declared dead at the scene.

A joint investigation has been launched by Derbyshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive into the incident.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "Police and members of the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the death of a man at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd.

"Officers were called to the factory in Burnaston at 12.40am today to a report of a man trapped between two lorries.

"The investigation is at an early stage but there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

"The man, who is believed to be 56 years old and not from Derbyshire, has not yet been formally identified. His family have been informed."

Toyota sent its condolences to the family of the man.

In a statement, Toyota Manufacturing UK said: "It is with great regret that I must inform you that we had a severe incident on site last night which unfortunately resulted in a lorry driver receiving serious injuries sadly resulting in his death.

"We are not able to give any details but we are supporting the authorities with their inquiries.

"We extend our condolences to the driver's family and friends."
