Boris Johnson made one of the most awkward admissions possible at the launch of a new tech workspace in London: he not only did not have any "cool apps" but had also forgotten how to download them.

Yes, this means the London Mayor has not even experienced the addictive joys of Flappy Bird.

Johnson told reporters in the capital's "Tech Hub" that he had "no cool apps whatsoever" on his smartphone, promising that he'd "try to" correct that.

What was his excuse? Johnson insisted he "used'” to know how to download apps but seemed to blame his daughter's birthday party for why he now had forgotten.

Or in his words: "I used to know how to get the apps but it's something to do with my daughter's birthday and I've lost it."

"I'm not a great advertisement for apps myself," he said apologetically. By contrast, Prime Minister David Cameron has revealed a love of playing Fruit Ninja and boasts of having finished the pig slingshot-a-thon Angry Birds.

Boris treated us to the sight of his attempts to befriend a self-aware Segway designed by BT, showing the vision of the one its employees in the telecoms giant's customer centre near Ipswich.

During his appearance at the Tech Hub, Johnson lavished praise on London's tech "wizards" and paid tribute to the "the lunar pull" that brings them to the capital.

"You've got to be open to talent and London is a great place to live," he told HuffPostUK.
