Mystery Emu Resists Arrest After Going On The Run Near RAF Base

A runaway emu put up "quite a fight" with police after running amok near an RAF base.

Police received reports of the bird running around in Dogdyke Road near RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire at 7.30am.

Fearing for the safety of the animal and for motorists using the road, two officers were dispatched to the scene.

They managed to capture the bird in a nearby garden - but encountered some resistance.

It is not known where the emu came from

Lincolnshire Police said the bird was uninjured and put up "quite a fight".

A force spokeswoman said: "It was quite a challenge for the two officers. It's a strong bird and put up some resistance to being put in the back seat of the patrol car.

"They had called for a police van but it was out on another job. One of the officers drove while the other held the bird in the back seat."

She said the force had so far been unable to track down where the bird came from.

"There is a local ostrich farm but it's not one of theirs. We've had no reports of any missing birds," she said.

A spokeswoman for Tattershall Farm Park in Tattershall, Lincolnshire, said the emu had settled in well.

She said: "He's settled in beautifully. He's curious about all the other animals around him.

"Apart from a grazed knee he's none the worse for his ordeal. Hopefully his owner will come forward soon. Until then he's getting on just fine here."
