A mother-of-four whose body was found at her home was a carer for her wheelchair-bound husband, according to neighbours. Thames Valley Police were called to the three-bedroom semi-detached house in Mulberry Walk, Maidenhead, Berkshire, at 8.17pm on Friday where they found the body of the woman named locally as 41-year-old Alison Taylor.

A spokesman for the force said that a post mortem was carried out this afternoon but was unable to establish a cause of death. Toxicology tests have been ordered to examine possible causes, the spokesman said.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. A resident of the quiet cul-de-sac, who did not wish to be named, said that Mrs Taylor had four children, Courtney, 23, Oliver, 21, and 19-year-old twins Paige and Paris.

She said: "Nobody knows the circumstances yet. There were flowers left outside the house earlier. They kept themselves to themselves mostly, I only knew them because their children used to hang around with mine. She wasn't disabled but her husband was and she would look after him."

A note on a bunch of flowers left outside the house says: "Alison, RIP. A beautiful woman in chains. XXX"

The police spokesman said: "A post mortem was carried out this afternoon but proved inconclusive, so toxicology tests have been requested by the pathologist. Formal identification of the woman is yet to take place.

"Thames Valley Police is continuing to treat the death as unexplained at this stage of the investigation. A scene watch is still in place at the address in Mulberry Walk."
