The thing about the modern world is so much of it is an illusion. Not just advertising, but the very streets we live on are constructed, painted, remodelled and reimagined by designers, concept artists and other people with expensive computers and thick-rimmed glasses.
That said, the other thing about the modern world is there are an awful lot of pranksters with access to the same stuff.
To that end, the Street Eraser project by artists Guus ter Beek and Tayfun Sarier aims to poke fun at our artificial world, while also mocking its own hubris at deconstructing it.
In English, that means the artists have made these neat graphics designed to look like the Erase tool in Photoshop, stuck them to objects and taken some pictures.
It's funny, high-concept, straightforward and knowing. It also makes Shoreditch look even more Shoreditch - something that was previously considered by the great social scientists of our age to be totally impossible.
