Matt Smith will play a role in the new reboot of the ‘Terminator’ franchise, it has been announced.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star will join actor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the forthcoming ‘Terminator: Genesis’, the fifth instalment in the series which is to be directed by Alan Taylor, who previously helmed ‘Thor’.
According to Deadline, the British star is reportedly the last major piece of casting for the upcoming blockbuster, which will see Arnie reprising his iconic role of cyborg T-800.
Matt's final scenes after almost four years in 'Doctor Who' aired in the show's Christmas special last year, when the leading role was then taken over by Peter Capaldi.
Since leaving the cult BBC series behind, he has been trying his hand at something new, and was recently seen treading the boards in London’s West End in the musical adaptation of ‘American Psycho’.
Meanwhile, he recently spoke to fans at a sci-fi convention and revealed he’d be keen to go back to ‘Doctor Who’ in the future, similar to when David Tennant returned to the show for its 50th anniversary celebrations.
If he’s been hanging around with Arnie on set before then - we might get to see a newly buffed-up Matt lifting a Dalek over his head, who knows?
‘Terminator: Genesis’ is currently tipped for release in July 2015.
