Olympic gold medalist Victoria Pendleton is set to make a very special appearance in ‘Emmerdale’ later this year.
The cyclist, who scooped two medals during the London Olympic Games in 2012, will be playing herself in an episode that will see her open the newly-refurbished Home Farm on the day before the Grand Depart of the Tour de France.
Victoria Pendleton makes her 'Emmerdale' debut
Victoria said: “Appearing on a soap is something I never expected to have the opportunity to do. So when the chance came up I thought it would be really good fun and my mum is a massive Emmerdale fan so that made the decision very easy.”
“Fortunately I’m playing myself, so it shouldn’t be too difficult but it’s still quite nerve wracking.”
In the soap, Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) will be over the moon is over the moon when the athlete agrees to make an appearance in the Dales for the grand opening of the Home Farm, though her arrival is thought to send her husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) into a bit of a frenzy.
Victoria in action
Kate Oates, producer of the series, said: “We are thrilled Victoria Pendleton is coming to Yorkshire to appear in an episode of ‘Emmerdale’. With the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire in July, the whole area is feeling the excitement of the event - and we felt it was only fitting ‘Emmerdale’ was part of that.
Victoria must be getting used to being around TV cameras now, having appeared on the last series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ alongside Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Susanna Reid and eventual winner Abbey Clancy.
