Missing Student Luke Pearce Update: Body Found In River Wear

Body Found In River Suspected To Be Missing Student

Police searching for a missing student have found a body in a river.

Luke Pearce, 19, went missing a week ago having been on a night out with his university friends in Durham.

The first year engineering student from Hounslow, Surrey, was last seen walking along the River Wear at 1.30am last Sunday.

A major search and rescue operation has been in place since, with students from Durham University assisting in the searches.

Yesterday members of Durham Amateur Rowing Club contacted the police saying they had seen a body in the water near Baths Bridge.

Durham Constabulary said the body had not yet been formally identified, but the family of Mr Pearce had been notified of the development.

The body has been recovered from the river and a post mortem is expected to be held later today to establish a formal cause of death.

The police say at this stage there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
