London Grammar and Tom Odell were honoured for their songwriting at the Ivor Novello Awards yesterday, alongside disco pioneer Nile Rodgers.
London Grammar scooped the Best Song Musically and Lyrically prize for their song ‘Strong’, which peaked in the UK top 20 when it was released last year.

The three-piece held hands as they collected their award and singer Hannah Reid declared it “a really special moment for us” as they were presented with the prize by Florence Welch.
Lily Allen presented the Songwriter Of The Year award to Tom Odell, who topped the album chart with his debut ‘Long Way Down’ in 2013.

However it wasn’t just the youngsters who were honoured at this year’s Ivor Novellos, as Nick Cave triumphed in the Album Award category.
He said: “Look, I don't really know what to say here. We don't go to many award ceremonies but this is the one to get. I want to thank my wife Susie, who dances through most of these songs.”
Meanwhile Nile Rodgers, whose career has seen a resurgence thanks to his collaborations with Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams, was presented with the Special International Award by Johnny Marr of The Smiths, who described Nile as “a hero”.

Visibly emotional as he received a standing ovation from the crowd, the disco pioneer was in tears as he thanked everyone for their support, saying: “This is the best award ceremony I've ever been to. With all the wackiness that my career has been through, today has been amazing."
"I just got in from Ibiza at 4am this morning, I haven't slept at all. I get a legends award and I'm laughing because I was like, you think I'm a legend? OK, I'll take it."
