Officers Given Telling Off For Blasting Out 'Sound Of Da Police' Track

Two police officers who blasted KRS-One’s Sound Of Da Police from their patrol car late at night have been given "words of advice" by a senior officer.

A video shows the marked police car driving through Chelmsford town centre with the hip hop classic playing from a loudspeaker.

An Essex reveller recording the scene can be heard giggling to the song, which has the well-known line: "Woop, woop, it’s the sound of the police."

A police spokeswoman said the officers have acknowledged they had "inappropriately used the patrol car PA system."

Asked about the incident in April, when the footage came to light, Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston, said the question had "caught me on the hip hop".

"I like people to have a sense of humour," he told BBC Essex.

"It's a question for the Chief Constable, but if someone's sense of humour got ahead of their judgment then maybe it's forgivable, but let's have a look at the facts."
