Woman Documents 12-Hour Birth On Twitter, Is Surprisingly Touching

This week women giving birth in public seems to be all the rage - first we heard about the new TV series inviting us to watch women give birth in the wild, now another woman has chosen to invite millions into the delivery room...via Twitter.

Lyndsey Thomas posted regular updates at almost every stage of her labour on social media.

From the moment Lyndsey thought she was having contractions, Twitter knew all about it...

Once at Whittington Hospital in North London, the 34-year-old posted pictures of herself, staff and her husband using the hashtag #Lyndseygivesbirth so friends and family could easily follow the events.

Speaking to the MailOnline, Lyndsey explained why she chose to have a 'Twitter birth'.

"I wanted to capture as much as I could, even during my contractions. It was a way of keeping my mind off the pain and telling friends what was happening.

"It was also a kind of social experiment to see what the reaction would be like. Everyone was very positive. People were even guessing the weight and the time I would give birth. The staff were all talking about it too," she said.

Although Lyndsey chose not to post any gory pictures of the latter stage of labour, she did tell her followers that giving birth "hurts like hell.

The former marketing executive, who already has a three-year-old son (Teddy), even made sure a camera was to hand while she was having an epidural.

To the relief of all those following the birth online, Lyndsey, who was 10 days overdue when induced, posted this oh so cute picture of a healthy baby Fearne at 1.45am.

"The staff at the hospital were phenomenal – flawless from beginning to end. Every single person that dealt with me was fantastic.

"Everything I wanted I was given, so I want to say a huge thanks them," Lyndsey has said.

Just 20 minutes after giving birth, the new mother was back on Twitter proudly telling the world she was breastfeeding her baby for the first time.

This final picture taken in hospital was this adorable close-up, but Lyndsey has continued to document the development of baby Fearne on Twitter in the days since the birth.
