Shaw Completes £30m United Transfer

Manchester United have signed left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton for a fee rising to £31 million.

Shaw, 18, has joined for an initial £27m fee and arrives a day after midfielder Ander Herrera completed his £29m move from Athletic Bilbao.

He has signed a four-year contract with the option for a fifth.

"I'm thrilled and excited to be joining," Shaw said. "I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my life and learning from the world-class players & management at the club."

United's assistant manger Ryan Giggs added: "He has the attributes to become a top player. This is the right club for him."

The teenager, who started in England's World Cup dead rubber against Costa Rica on Tuesday, changed his Twitter profile to "Professional Footballer at Manchester United Football Club" before deleting the update.

Shaw is regarded as United's long-term left-back and will be mentored by Patrice Evra next season as Louis van Gaal begins a long overdue overhaul of the squad.

Although Shaw's boyhood club Chelsea were interested his parents advised him to join United.

He has already made 60 Premier League appearances and attained three England caps under Roy Hodgson. Shaw dislodged Ashley Cole from the England fold last month when he was selected over the Three Lions centurion by Hodgson for the 23-man World Cup squad.

Shaw's inclusion delayed his protracted move to United, which gathered pace after England returned home from their miserable finals on Wednesday.

Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana is also on the verge of completing a £25m move to Liverpool.
