Former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Jean Alexander, who played the iconic role of Hilda Ogden for over two decades on the ITV soap, has opened up about her recent health scare, revealing that she suffered a “small stroke”.
The soap queen was taken to hospital in an ambulance earlier in the week after falling ill at her house in Merseyside, and is now recovering in a rehabilitation unit where she’s being cared for by staff, who she described as “magnificent”.

She told The Mirror: “I suffered a very slight stroke but I hope to be back in the garden in no time at all. Don’t worry, I am fit and well, but thank you so much for your goodwill messages.”
Jean was also keen to set the record straight and say that her visit to hospital hadn’t been as urgent or as serious as it was originally reported, telling fans: “Don’t write me off yet.”

The star’s brother released a statement earlier this week, thanking fans for their support but asking for “no fuss” to be made, adding: “She would be glad if she is not flooded with flowers or chocolates or things like that.”
