Good Samaritan's 'Superhuman Strength' Saves Driver From Burning Car By Bending Door With His Bare Hands

A man is being lauded a hero after saving a driver from a burning car – by bending the vehicle’s door with his bare hands.

Bob Renning, 52, sprang into action after noticing the smoke-filled car on a Minnesota freeway on Sunday night.

“He bent the door in half”, Minnesota State Trooper Zachary Hill told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

“I don’t think I could take a crowbar and fold the door like he did,” Hill said, adding the feat must have taken “superhuman strength.”

The benefactor of Renning’s heroics was Mike Johannes, who found himself trapped after the fire disabled the locks on his SUV.

He told KHON: “He bent the door with his bare hands. That was him. It was no tool. He went (crack). It shattered the glass and they were able to pull me out.”

Johannes, who suffered minor cuts and smoke inhalation, told the Associated Press: “Thirty seconds later I would have been done.

“It was a good thing I didn’t have my family in there.”

Renning, an Air National Guard, delivered a typically modest response, explaining: “I don’t think I did anything different anyone else would have done had they gotten into the car ahead of me. That’s just my take.”
