Female listeners prefer men's voices on the radio, says Tony Blackburn, defending BBC 5 Live's decision to replace two of its leading ladies.
The veteran DJ muses that there are plenty of women on the radio, following complaints that 5 Live's decision means the station is now unequal.

The Mirror reports Tony saying, "I think there are quite a lot of women actually.
“But during the day, women have always preferred the voices of men. I have no idea why.
“There is nothing to stop women coming into broadcasting. There are loads on BBC Radio 2.
"If you look at the news channels, they are all women. I don’t think there are enough men. I think we should get more men on.
Tony Blackburn's comments after a shakeup at 5 Live meant the replacement of established broadcasters Victoria Derbyshire and Shelagh Fogarty with male broadcasters Peter Allan, Dan Walker, and including an extended slot for the returning Adrian Chiles.
In the same interview, the DJ claimed the real reason behind Graham Norton's absence from his radio show last weekend was because he "overslept", and not because he was unwell, as the BBC claimed. Tony Blackburn, whose show is on later in the day, stepped in to fill Graham's seat last Saturday morning.
