Celtic have been humiliatingly reinstated in the Champions League after their qualifying conquests Legia Warsaw were expelled for fielding an ineligible player.
Legia eviscerated Celtic 4-1 in Warsaw and 2-0 at Murrayfield for a 6-1 aggregate victory but substitute Bartosz Bereszynski's four-minute cameo has compelled Uefa to expel them.
On Thursday night, the Polish side confirmed European football's governing body has asked them for information regarding the participation of Bereszynski.
A statement on their website read: “The club announces that in connection with the Celtic-Legia Warsaw match, Uefa opened an investigation into the participation of Bartosz Bereszynski.
“The club is preparing the relevant information and explanations, which will be sent to Uefa. The result of the investigation will be announced immediately after its completion.”
The full-back was sent off for violent conduct against Apollon in the final match of Legia’s Europa League campaign last season and only came on in the 86th minute of Legia’s 2-0 win at Celtic on Wednesday night.
Uefa's sanction means Legia will forfeit the game with a 3-0 defeat, meaning Celtic have effectively qualified on the away goals rule.
The news will be all the more sweeter for Celtic fans since the Legia manager, Henning Berg, used to play for Rangers.
