Radamel Falcao, Liverpool Target, Set To Join Real Madrid

Liverpool Want Falcao, But Is He Going To Anfield?

Liverpool have ended their interest in Monaco striker Radamel Falcao after discovering the Colombian is on the verge of joining Real Madrid.

Falcao, 28, was the subject of an enquiry from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers earlier this week as Liverpool stepped up their pursuit of an established striker to replace Luis Suárez.

Falcao scored against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup on Sunday

However, it appears Falcao will return to Madrid with Real after a dismal year at Monaco in which he struggled for form and suffered a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of Colombia's World Cup squad.

Falcao will link up with James Rodríguez, the tournament's top goalscorer and considered by many to have been the best player in Brazil, at the Bernabéu.

Real were interested in Falcao last year however their rivalry with Atlético Madrid, with whom Falcao spent two seasons, effectively scuppered any chance of a deal and the striker joined Monaco.

It now appears Falcao's move to the French club, owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, was a stop-gap ahead of a more ambitious move this summer.
