Eating apples could lead to a better sex life, a new study published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics has claimed. Because an apple a day keeps the... vagina lubricated, apparently.
Researchers analysed 731 sexually active Italian women aged 18 to 43 with no history or complaint of sexual disorder.
The participants were separated into two groups: regular apple consumption (one to two apples a day) and no apple consumption (none to half an apple per day) and were asked to fill out the Female Sexual Function Index - which is made up of 19 questions about sexual function, sexual frequency, orgasm, lubrication and overall sexual satisfaction.
Researchers found "daily apple use is associated with higher FSFI scores in sexually active female patients, thus increasing their lubrication and overall sexual function."
Though the study suggests women who regularly chow down on apples experience better sexual function and lubrication, the actual cause behind a more satisfactory sexual experience was not specified.
And as Elite Daily's Alexia Lafata notes, "women who eat more apples could simply have better health overall, which would contribute to better sex".
However, apples do contain a type of oestrogen called phlorizin similar to the female sex hormone that improves vaginal lubrication.
So, say goodbye to KY jelly and just munch on a few apple pre sexy time.
