Baby North made a rare public appearance accompanying mum Kim Kardashian through customs as they left the US for a Valentine's Day break this weekend.

Dressed in a casual black roll-neck jumper and leggings, the TV personality arrived at LAX airport pushing her little girl in a pram. Kim was then snapped carrying North as they made their way through customs inspections.

Kim recently told chat show host Ellen DeGeneres: "She changes all the time. One day she'll look like Kanye, one day she'll look like me. It's so crazy. And her personality is so cute. She is really calm and really quiet."

That certainly seemed to be the case today, with the now eight-month-old looking happy and alert while her smiling mum held her closely as they passed through security controls.

It is the first time Kim, 33, has travelled out of the country with her daughter, who is nicknamed Nori by her family.

Nori's dad, rapper and producer Kanye West, was not with the pair, prompting suggestions that they may be jetting off to join him for a family break. Kim and Kanye are currently planning a lavish wedding extravaganza, which will take place this summer in Paris.

Although Kim gained an infamous reputation for posting a constant stream of selfies to Instagram, motherhood has been keeping her too busy to keep up the tradition. And in the few shots she continues to upload, baby North is rarely featured.

It's no surprise that she wants to keep her little girl from too much exposure to the public gaze given that Kim's relationship with social media has been rocky, with her looks, weight and behaviour often subject to online scrutiny.

Most recently, she came under fire from Twitter critics who branded little North #Ignori, claiming that Kim does not appear to spend enough time with her baby.

Kim put the haters in their place, tweeting: "Bc I don't tweet or instagram my every move w my daughter means I am not with her 247? We share what we want."
