Thomas Müller Rejected 'Astronomical' Manchester United Transfer

Müller Rejected Which Club's 'Astronomical' Offer?

Thomas Müller has admitted he rejected an "astronomical" offer to join Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal instructed United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to approach the Bayern Munich forward earlier in the summer, yet days after Müller sought clarification over his long-term future at the Allianz Arena he signed a long-term contract.

"I knew that I would have earned more money," Müller told Bild when asked if United offered him a more lucrative deal. "The sums from other clubs which circulated had been astronomical.

Van Gaal brought Müller into the Bayern first-team

"I can just say: a transfer for me was never an option. FC Bayern is my club."

Van Gaal brought a 19-year-old Müller into the Bayern first-team, along with Holger Badstuber, when it seemed the young duo were set to be loaned out for the season.

Bayern won the 2009-10 domestic double and reached the Champions League final, while Müller went on to become top scorer at the 2010 World Cup finals.

Müller, 24, scored five goals for Germany during their victorious 2014 World Cup campaign and also claimed the decisive goal in Bayern's Champions League quarter-final triumph against United last season.
