NASA, or rather the Solar Dynamics Observatory has released some incredible new footage of the Sun which shows a number of enormous solar flares.
The Sun has been going through a period of increased activity resulting in a number of what the SDO classifies as M-class flares taking place over the last few days.

An M-Class is considered to be a mid-level eruption, so around ten times smaller than that of the largest which is known as an X-class flare.
While being less powerful these eruptions are still more than capable of disruption Earth-orbiting satellites in particular GPS systems.
