You know that thing when you save and save (and save!) for a Hermès handbag only to get it home and realise that it *really* smells like weed?
Okay, so very few of us could ever afford a designer bag of this variety, but this has actually happened across the pond.
Page Six reports customers have returned the Hermès handbags they purchased in 2013 and 2014 because they smell of marijuana.
Staff at Hermès stores told angry (and surely quite confused) customers that there was a problem with a "badly tanned" batch of leather from a supplier. They claimed the tanning process makes the leather smell like cannabis when it heats up in direct sunlight.
The pungent scent has been noted on multiple bags in various colours across the Birkin, the Kelly and the Elan clutch. You know, the styles that retail for over £12,000. You'd be pretty put out wouldn't you?
This is not the kind of press that a luxury fashion brand like Hermès needs on record, so the bags are swiftly being returned to Paris for a rebuild with a new batch of leather.
Let's hope they don't come with any strange, lingering scents second time around.
