The new iPad Air 2 and Mini 3 are on the face of it broadly similar devices to the previous generation.
But they do have one unexpectedly cool new feature: a built-in SIM.
It wasn't mentioned at Apple's event, but instead of buying 4G iPad and then buying a SIM, now you just buy the iPad and select your carrier when you turn it on.
The iPad actually has a SIM already built in - hinting at a possible future implementation in the iPhone too?
You can even choose a local data carrier when abroad without having to buy another SIM. We're not certain which UK carriers are participating, but EE is definitely among them.
Apple says:
"The Apple SIM gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of short-term plans from select carriers in the US and UK right on your iPad. So whenever you need it, you can choose the plan that works best for you - with no long-term commitments."
"And when you travel, you may also be able to choose a data plan from a local carrier for the duration of your trip."
