Homeless Man Reunited With His Family After Twelve Years Apart - All Thanks To A Facebook Post

Homeless Man Reunited With His Family After Twelve Years Apart

A homeless man is to be reunited with his family after more than a decade apart - and it's all thanks to a Facebook post that captured the hearts of a community and reached his estranged sister.

George Cunningham is homeless and longs for nothing more than a place to stay and a Christmas dinner over the festive period.

His story was posted on the Humans Of Ireland Facebook page last week - a project that that takes photographs of people in Ireland and posts them online together with a line or two about them, it is based on the hugely popular sister project Humans Of New York.

George's story struck a chord with thousands of people in the area, with people offering George somewhere to spend Christmas... but there was one offer that really stood out.

"She also wrote about how their mother wasn’t well and asked if i had taken George’s contact details. I hadn’t," he added. "All I knew for certain about George was that he was planning on staying in Kinsale till the 16th of December before moving on."

According to Lee's blog, the family were able to get in touch with George and he is due to return home to spend Christmas with the family.

The reunited family has attracted a lot of attention on Facebook, with wellwishers (some of whom know George and Sheelagh) sending their regards.
