London Pub Feeds Homeless Christmas Dinner For Free

London Pub Wins Christmas By Feeding Homeless For Free

A North London pub has well and truly embraced the festive spirit by providing free Christmas dinners for the homeless.

The William IV pub, in Shepherdess Walk, Islington, fed 183 people on Sunday as well as providing boxes of food for shelters.

The charitable drive began earlier this week when they tweeted an appeal to spread the word of their mission.

With nearly 10,000 retweets the message soon got around and people volunteered food, their time or just wishes of goodwill.

Unsurprisingly they filled the pub with ease.

Pub barman, Dave, told the Huffington Post: "It was really good. We served 183 courses and we also sent boxes to shelters so peole had something for the night.

"The staff are still buzzing, it was just a great day."

The pub refused to take donations instead insisting it go to charity.

General manager, Max Kalton, told the Evening Standard: "Everyone kept saying we can give you some money towards this. Rather than take the money we decided to set up Justgiving page for St Mungo’s, they are more deserving of the money.

"We said we will definitely do it again next year and work with St Mungo’s, we can do something every month. Other pubs can do this sort of thing it doesn’t cost that much to do."
