It was a case of Christmas come early for some after a cash transport van spilled millions of dollars in bundles of banknotes in a busy motorway in Hong Kong.

The incident occurred during lunch time on Christmas Eve in Wan Chai, the South China Morning Post reported.

The van is reported to have been carrying the equivalent of £2.8million when a fault released the doors and sprayed sweet, sweet cash all over the ground.

Cue a frantic scrabble as the authorities tried to contain the scene.

Up to £1.25m went missing in the melee, the BBC reports and police are appealing for the return of the money.
