The F/A-18E/F Rhino military plane creates a sonic boom that can be seen hitting the water as it passes.
The phenomenon occurs when an aircraft travels faster than the speed of sound (761 mph).
Sound-waves created by the aircraft bunch up and compress as the plane catches them up. Eventually they are forced into a single shockwave which creates the characteristic sound.

It was posted online by Military.com and was taken shot on an US Navy aircraft carrier but it is unclear which one or when it was shot.
