Anne Kirkbride Dead: 'Coronation Street' To Address Deirdre Barlow's Death 'In Time'

'Corrie' Bosses To 'Take Time' To Deal With Deirdre's Death

Anne Kirkbride’s death will be addressed on ‘Coronation Street’ "in time", it has been reported.

For over 40 years, Anne played Deirdre Barlow in the ITV soap, eventually becoming one of the best-loved characters in the soap’s history.

Despite reports claiming that the character's death would be handled in a storyline "in the next few weeks", Metro have now reported that there are no immediate plans for the character to die.

Instead, producers are "taking their time" to deal with what will no doubt be one of the most emotional send-offs in 'Corrie' history.

Anne died in a Manchester hospital on Monday hospital, following a short bout of illness, as confirmed by her husband earlier this week.

Since the shocking news broke, stars of ‘Corrie’ past and present have paid tribute to Anne on Twitter, with her onscreen husband Bill Roache also paying his respects with an emotional interview on ‘This Morning’.

“You always knew when you were in her presence - laughter was always near. Even when we had scenes of shouting and crying, we would always have a laugh afterwards. She was full of fun, a wonderful person… we all loved her and will really, really miss her.”

The ‘Corrie’ set was closed down on Tuesday, as a mark of respect for Anne, with Bill adding: “We all wanted to come in and work today - that was the feeling we all had in our hearts - but when we got here, we couldn’t do it.”
