Josh Mason, 26, has hopes to take the seat for Redcar as it is vacated by retiring MP Ian Swales and currently holds the deputy post on the Redcar and Cleveland Local Council.
The councillor can be seen, on his Tinder profile, making a silly face next to the furnace opening at Kirkleatham Memorial Park and Crematorium near Yearby, where more than 400 people have been cremated.
A spokesperson for the facility told Political Scrapbook: "We tell people when we’re going round that, due to the nature of the services we carry out in the crematorium, it should be treated with the dignity and respect that it deserves."
The parliamentary hopeful said: "Being born and bred in Redcar and Cleveland, I imagine that one day, Yearby Crematorium will be my own final destination. My visit there was a stark reminder of our shared mortality.
"Indeed, I have already said a last ‘goodbye’ to a number of family friends and colleagues there. Nevertheless, I deeply regret any offence I may have caused."
