Liberal Democrat Candidate Josh Mason 'Regrets' Taking 'Mocking' Crematorium Furnace Selfie

Lib Dem Candidate 'Deeply Regrets' Tinder Profile Crematorium Selfie

A Liberal Democrat candidate for the May General Election has apologised for taking a selfie with a crematorium furnace and posting it on his online dating profile.

Josh Mason, 26, has hopes to take the seat for Redcar as it is vacated by retiring MP Ian Swales and currently holds the deputy post on the Redcar and Cleveland Local Council.

The councillor can be seen, on his Tinder profile, making a silly face next to the furnace opening at Kirkleatham Memorial Park and Crematorium near Yearby, where more than 400 people have been cremated.

The parliamentary hopeful said: "Being born and bred in Redcar and Cleveland, I imagine that one day, Yearby Crematorium will be my own final destination. My visit there was a stark reminder of our shared mortality.

"Indeed, I have already said a last ‘goodbye’ to a number of family friends and colleagues there. Nevertheless, I deeply regret any offence I may have caused."

The Liberal Democrats declined to comment on the issue.
