LG has unveiled a 4G-enabled smartwatch that allows you to use all the features of a smartphone without actually needing one to function.
Unlike the Asus ZenWatch, or the LG Watch Urbane, the Urbane LTE does not run Android Wear, instead it features LG's own wearable operating system.
Along with 4G, the Urbane LTE comes with NFC allowing for mobile payments without a smartphone. It'll also use the LTE connectivity to provide Push-To-Talk 'Walkie-Talkie' communication between two Urbane LTE watches.
Similar in design to the G Watch R, the Urbane LTE has been designed not to replace a smartphone, but simply to use the LTE connectivity to increase the functionality of a smartwatch.
This includes voice translation, making and receiving phone calls as well as featuring a panic button which can call a pre-determined emergency number if you get into trouble.
Urbane LTE is also a comprehensive fitness and sports tracker, with dedicated apps for running, golf and more. Despite the increased workload LG claims it'll still function as an always-on watch, with the company suggesting days of standby time.
It's also been given the waterproofing treatment and while it's not fully waterproof it'll survive the shower, heavy rain and even the occasional drop in a puddle.

There's no word on pricing or a release date but with the Apple Watch imminent and a range of new smartwatches expected from rivals it's likely to be sooner rather than later.
