WE DAY: Nelson Mandela's Legacy Alive And Strong...

Kweku is continuing the family tradition of activism with his own foundation, and referred to his grandfather often in his speech, referring to the revered late statesman's imprisonment for 27 years and his release in 1990.

Kweku added:

"On the day he walked out of prison in 1990, he was welcomed by the united voices of his people rejoicing and celebrating both his freedom and theirs.

"And in that moment, holds one of the greatest lessons of his life – the power of the people. That day he gave a speech, saying, 'I pay tribute to the endless heroism of the youth. You, young lions who have energised our entire struggle.'

"On his first day of freedom, he honoured the leaders of tomorrow, and I’m here today to bring that same message to you.

"My grandfather brought hope to millions and he left a void. But he knew that you would take up the torch and carry on the fight."

Other celebrities in attendance were Martin Sheen, Sir Richard Branson, Conor Maynard, Natalie Imbruglia and Princess Beatrice.
