Where To Buy The Best Sportswear Brands You've Never Heard Of

As fitness fanatics will already know, sportswear has never been so stylish. This means old, oversized t-shirts and plain black leggings are out. Tunic tops and rainbow coloured-trainers are in.

As this activewear trend continues to rise and more people buy into the healthy lifestyle statement that goes with it, there's also never been a better time to shop things sporty. With retailers like Net-a-Sporter leading the bandwagon, the choice of colours, prints and styles is now endless when it comes to upgrading your Pilates gear.

But what about those under-the-radar sportswear brands? The labels that come without the famous logos but are brilliant at supporting and flattering the body? We've found just the place to track them down.

Active in Style has been selling fashionable yet functional activewear since January 2013. Founded by former PR manager Caroline Lucey, the website was the first to stock iconic Australian brand Lorna Jane in the UK and Europe. It has since become an online destination for unique labels from around the world, including Vie Active, Pilot Athletic, Running Bare, Body Science and Vimmia.

While bringing unknown brands into a saturated sportswear market was a risky move, Lucey's timing couldn't have been better.

"Sport and fitness have become a part of our everyday lives like never before so it makes sense that we want to dress for this lifestyle," she told to us. "I don't believe this is a trend though but more a movement or cultural shift towards a healthier way of life."

This shift doesn't look like it's going to slow down anytime soon, either. With fitness concepts like Barry's Bootcamp and Barrecore becoming even more popular, competitive gym bunnies are on the look out for the right clothes for each sport. There are yoga selfies to think about, after all.

"There is increased availability of high-performance fabrics that are not only comfortable, lightweight, durable as well as flattering, but have advanced technical properties from compression, to sweat wicking, to breathable and quick drying," Lucey added.

This explains why the site's latest addition, Australian brand Dharma Bums has been one of the retailer's best-sellers to date. Their yoga leggings are non-sheer, breathable and are made with a four-way stretch fabric which hugs the body. And best of all? They come in this kaleidoscope print.

Stylish sportswear that makes you feel good about yourself? It can only be a good thing.
