Although last year’s series saw the shock return of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini to the judging panel, as well as the introduction of Mel B, it seems producers are still keen to keep things fresh, and are planning some huge twists for when ‘X Factor’ returns to screens this summer.

Executive producer Richard Holloway has promised some “exciting changes”, telling The Mirror: “The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at format and the judges.

However, while it might sound as though no judge’s spot on the panel is safe, one name you can probably count on returning is Simon, with Richard adding: “It is safe to say Simon is staying.”

He went on to address the show’s long-running rivalry with ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, who thrashed ‘X Factor’ in the ratings battle last year.

“Let battle commence, but we would love to beat them.”

Last year’s ‘X Factor’ winner, Ben Haenow, secured the coveted Christmas number one spot with his track, ‘Something I Need’, although he wasn’t the only success story from this year’s series.
