Princess Charlotte will be christened in a private ceremony next month, Kensington Palace has announced.

Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, who was born on May 2, will be christened on July 5 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham.

Kensington Palace said in a short statement: "Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce the christening of Princess Charlotte will take place on Sunday, 5th July at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham.

Princess Charlotte will be christened in June

“Princess Charlotte will be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby."

Princess Charlotte was delivered far quicker than Kate's her first child - with the baby being born less than three hours after she was admitted to hospital at 6am in the early stages of labour.

Kate and Prince William's first child Prince George was born on 22 July 2013 at the Lindo wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.
