Lee Westwood 'Splits From Wife'

Golf champion Lee Westwood has reportedly split from his wife after 16 years of marriage.

The Sun on Sunday reported that the 42-year-old former world number one golfer, who has played in nine Ryder Cups, broke up with Laurae, 40.

She is believed to be taking care of their children - Sam, 14, and Poppy, 10 - at the family's mansion in Florida.

Meanwhile, Westwood is reportedly being consoled by his parents in his home town of Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

According to the newspaper the golf star declined to speak about the matter, saying: "I don't comment on my private life."

Westwood was named player of the year for the 1998, 2000 and 2009 seasons.

He has won the 2000 European Tour Order of Merit and the renamed 2009 Race to Dubai, and is widely considered as one of the best golfers without a major championship victory.

In October 2010, Westwood became the world number one golfer, ending the reign of Tiger Woods and becoming the first British golfer since Nick Faldo in 1994 to hold that position.

He held the number one position for a total of 22 weeks.

Mrs Westwood, the sister of Scottish Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart, and Westwood married in January 1999.

A spokesman for Westwood also reportedly declined to comment.
