Testino Chosen For Christening

Mario Testino is to take the official photographs for Princess Charlotte's christening, Kensington Palace announced.

The celebrated fashion photographer was chosen for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official engagement photos in 2010 and also created some of the most enduring images of William's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "The Duke and Duchess are delighted that Mario Testino will help capture this important moment for their family and look forward to sharing the photographs with the public."

The Peruvian - said to be Diana's favourite photographer - has worked with William on many occasions.

He marked William's 21st birthday in 2003 and also captured Prince Harry's 20th birthday image in 2004, which showed the royal brothers joking with their father.

The Prince of Wales was also photographed by Testino in 2001 and again five years later to mark his first wedding anniversary to the Duchess of Cornwall.

Testino said he was honoured to be selected for the task. He will take the official photographs of the christening party following Princess Charlotte's baptism on Sunday at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham - close to the Cambridges's Norfolk country mansion Anmer Hall.

"I am overwhelmed and honoured to be chosen to document this occasion and to carry on the documentation of the family that is the soul of this country, a country that has given me so much," he said.

Testino, 60, is one of the most highly regarded fashion and portrait photographers in the world and his work has been showcased in international magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair and in museum and gallery exhibitions.

The rich, famous and powerful, ranging from Madonna and Kate Moss to Michelle Obama, have posed for him. He received an honorary OBE last year.
