A man has died after falling down a chimney of a seven-storey building.
The 20-year-old's body was found by police at the base of the chimney in the basement of the residential property in Great Cumberland Place, Westminster, shortly before 1am.
He is believed to have been sitting on the roof of the building when he fell backwards, the Metropolitan Police said.
London Fire Brigade, Air Ambulance and Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
The man's next of kin has been notified but he has yet to be formal identified and his death will be referred to the coroner.
Inspector Ian Bond of Westminster Police said: "This was a difficult and protracted recovery and is an excellent example of partnership working between all three emergency services.
"Our thoughts are with the young man's family at this sad time. "
