Emmy Awards 2015: Winners Here - Jon Hamm FINALLY Rewarded, 'Game Of Thrones', Viola Davis Both Make History

EMMY AWARDS: How Did The Brits Do On TV's Big Night?

It was TV's biggest night of the year, when 'Game of Thrones' broke the record for winning the most Emmys in one night, another ceiling just got smashed with Viola Davis becoming the first black woman to win the gong for Outstanding Actress... but never mind all that history-making, how did we Brits fare?

ALL THE EMMY WINNERS BELOW IN BOLD

Answer? Not very well, really. Those tireless wits from 'Veep' were the winners of two of the major gongs, taking home Best Comedy Series and one for the writing on the same show. Awards also went to two of the show's actors, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (her sixth Emmy) and Tony Hale, playing her ever-subservient bodyman Gary.

However, it wasn't such good news for most of our familiar faces, soundly beaten in the leading categories. Jon Hamm, winning his first ever Emmy for the role of 'Mad Men's Don Draper saw off Hugh Bonneville, while Richard Jenkins for 'Olive Kitteridge' beat David Oyelowo, Mark Rylance and Ricky Gervais in the category of Outstanding Actor, Limited Series or Comedy-Drama.

And it seems the Americans' passion for 'Downton Abbey' has finally calmed down. As well as Hugh Bonneville's losing out, Jim Carter was beaten by 'Thrones' Peter Dinklage in his category, while Joanne Froggatt was beaten by 'Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba in hers.

And Best Drama Series? Well, that went to 'Game of Thrones', too - just one of the 12 awards the world-beating show took home, the most ever awards for one show on Emmys night.

The previous holder of this record was 'The West Wing' in 2002 and, true to form, two of that show's alumni scooped up another pair of gongs last night, with Bradley Whitford winning for his guest spot on 'Transparent', and Allison Janney adding to her ever-growing haul for 'Mom'.

Amazon's 'Transparent' also continued its Golden Globe-winning streak, collecting two awards for the streamed show about a family whose father is transgender. Jeffrey Tambor picked up the gong for Best Comedy Actor, while the show's director Jill Soloway also collected a gong.

Award for the most emotional speech of the night went to Viola Davis, accepting her gong for Outstanding Lead Actress for 'How To Get Away With Murder'.

She told the crowd: "The only thing that separates women of colour from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win Emmys with roles that are simply not there."
