Peruvian Town Of Ferreñafe Gives Homeless Man Heartwarming Makeover

This Rough Sleeper Was Given A Makeover By His Entire Community

A town has given an elderly man a heartwarming makeover after his time spent on the streets led him to become covered in dirt.

83-year-old Chumán Don Luciano lives in the town of Ferreñafe in Peru and is known affectionately in the community as "Crazy Chumàn."

Luciano has schizophrenia and although he has a family and a home, he spends most of his time on the streets.

The 83-year-old received clothing from locals

The story was originally posted by the governmental body Municipalidad Provincial de Ferreñafe on September 22, and has since been shared over 6,000 times.

Pictures of the event show the community of Ferreñafe coming together to provide the basics as well as providing Luciano with new clothes and a hair cut.

According to the provincial municipality, the province has been inundated with additional requests to support and provide clothing for Luciano.

Many left supportive messages in the comments section of the post.

One user wrote: "Blessings to all those who supported this act of kindness."

Speaking to BuzzFeed Español, municipality spokeswoman Yesenia Abad Cross said that Luciano is an “icon” and the whole community supported the effort.

“These humanitarian gestures must continue,” said Cross. “Sometimes we are a little indifferent, and forget that they are people like us and need our help.”
