With Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard bringing Shakespeare's most complicated power couple to the screen this week in Justin Kurzel's 'Macbeth', it got us to thinking... who wins the prize for the screen's most complex duo? And how intimately do we know them?
Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard play ambitious duo the Macbeths in Justin Kurzel's new film
In this retelling, Macbeth, Thane of Scotland, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself. But this treacherous action is not without its consequences for the ambitious pair...
But the Macbeths aren't the only complex duo to fascinate and frighten us in equal measure. Francis and Claire Underwood patrol the power corridors of Washington in 'House of Cards', while Bonnie and Clyde proved it's possible to keep each other firmly on the wrong side of the law, and still look great.
