One Direction are "appreciating every moment" ahead of their break next year.
Louis Tomlinson, 23, said they are "counting down the shows" as they approach the final "emotional" concert of their current tour - and joked that they may take up a hobby like pottery during their time out from the band.
He said the quartet will still spend time together and have plans to go on a "lads holiday".
In an interview on Good Morning Britain, Tomlinson said: "It will definitely be emotional I think. Once we kind of take it in for all it is, because we've spent five years touring every year and not touring for a year next year is going to be quite bizarre.
"You're kind of counting down the shows now, thinking there's not many left, so you're really appreciating every moment, not that it's the end. But still, it's important."
He told the programme: "There's no doubt we'll see plenty of each other, we will."
The heartthrob said they are "like family now", adding: "It's like leaving school and leaving your friends behind."
Asked how long the break will be, Tomlinson said: "We don't really want to put a time on it because then that puts pressure on us and we're just going to enjoy this time to do what we want to do."
Meanwhile, commenting on Zayn Malik's departure from the band, Liam Payne said Malik is "off doing what he loves", adding: "Both parties are winners in the end of a disaster of a situation, so it's all good."
Tomlinson joked that pottery and ceramics are hobbies the boys may pursue while on their break.
"Like the scene in Ghost," Payne joked.
In August the band hit the headlines over rumours about their future - shocking millions of devoted fans.
But Tomlinson and Niall Horan told fans on Twitter the four-piece would just be taking a ''break''.
It came after a report in The Sun that the pop stars are set to go their separate ways in March.
A source told the tabloid the band will not tour their fifth album and will instead part company for a year because they want to focus on solo projects.
The band have announced Perfect as the second single to be lifted from their eagerly-anticipated new album, Made In The AM.
Perfect will be released worldwide on Friday, with their fifth studio album following on Friday November 13.
