Much has been made in the press about the real reasons thousands of refugees are fleeing their home countries and seeking asylum in the UK.
Last month it was claimed figures released by the EU exposed the "lie" from campaigners and left-wing MPs that the majority were escaping war and were actually mostly economic migrants.

This case rested on the fact that "four out of five migrants are NOT from Syria" - but many of the other countries asylum seekers are originating are in fact war zones, or close to it, themselves.
The chart above shows the the origin countries of the 19,196 people who claimed asylum in the UK from January to July of 2015.
