It seems Brits have a strange sense of humour, especially when it comes to weather.

The Met Office on Tuesday released its results after asking the public to choose names for future storms that hit the UK and Ireland and there's some strange names among the bunch.

The Met Office has chosen a selection of new storm names which include Gertrude and Nigel

When a storm is now deemed potentially able to cause "substantial" impact, the Met Office will give it one of its selected names - such as Gertrude, or Nigel.

Its hoped naming storms will help raise awareness of severe weather and ensure people protect themselves.

The full list of names chosen for future selection are: Abigail, Barney, Clodagh, Desmond, Eva, Frank, Gertrude, Henry, Imogen, Jake, Katie, Lawrence, Mary, Nigel, Orla, Phil, Rhonda, Steve, Tegan, Vernon and Wendy.
