In true you-couldn’t-make-it-up news, an office used by Ukip as a campaigning hub has reopened – as an advice centre for Polish people.

The building in Doncaster centre was Ukip’s headquarters in the town in the run up to the General Election in May.

The anti-EU picked up more than 28,000 across the three constituencies in the area, coming second in both Doncaster Central and Doncaster North, and third in Don Valley.

But whereas just over six months ago it was home to leaflets and fliers calling for Britain to get back control of its borders as immigration is too high, the building now offers help to Poles when it comes to filling in benefit forms.

According to the Doncaster Free Press: “The centre also offers help with bank, school and medical assistance as well as booking air tickets, photocopying and printing.”

Ukip held its last two party conferences in the town, which leader Nigel Farage regards as a gateway for an attack on Labour’s dominance in the north of England.

He said choosing Doncaster Racecourse as the venue for the 2014 conference was a sign the party was “now parking our tanks on the Labour Party's lawn.”
