'EastEnders': 17 Times It Won The Battle Of The Soaps In 2015

Having celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, 'EastEnders' has been on top form over the last 12 months, leaving all other soaps in its wake.

As viewers, we've laughed, we've cried and we've gasped as the residents of Walford gave birth, came back from the dead, cross-dressed, won the lottery and suffered tragedy.

So, as we gear up for what is likely to be another explosive Christmas and New Year in Albert Sqaure, let's remind ourselves of just how ruddy brilliant 'EastEnders' was in 2015...

1. Live Week gave us many great moments - there was the shock return of Kathy Beale

She was looking remarkable for someone who’d been dead since 2006.

2. And after an agonising 10-month wait, we FINALLY found out who killed Lucy Beale.

It was Bobby, with the jewelry box, in the living room!

3. There was some stand-out acting from Adam Woodyatt

How he hasn’t won any awards this year is beyond us.

4. While Dot Branning was carted off in the back of a police car for bumping off her son Nick.

5. But the real highlight of Live Week was this almighty gaffe from Jo Joyner

10 months later, and we're still waiting to find out how Adam is.

6. Although the ridiculousness of the fireworks scene at the end of the episode came a close second

Bloomin' Emeli Sande.

7. Later, Sharon Mitchell took real offence to a cheese and pickle sandwich

Kate Moss, eat your heart out.

8. And was later horrified to discover her real dad is her husband’s ex-wife’s new husband.

That’s one complicated family tree.

9. But that wasn’t the only big secret we found out, as Pam Coker had the shock of her life thanks to husband Les.

Christine = Ruth Langsford?

10. ‘EastEnders’ bosses have really been in tune with what viewers want to see more of this year

Notably Peter Beale’s torso.

11. Although we kinda wish they’d got rid of Ronnie Mitchell when they had the chance.

We’re still not over Emma Summerhayes’ death, tbh.

12. There’s been some very important issues covered in 2015. Shabnam Masood's stillbirth scenes proved to be unbelievably powerful and had us all in floods of tears.

Read our interview with Rakhee Thakrar, who plays Shabnam, here.

13. While the soap has also tackled the subject of depression in young males with Lee Carter’s storyline, and has done so with honesty and integrity.

Read our interview with Danny-Boy Hatchard, who plays Lee, here.

14. However, it hasn’t been all doom and gloom in Albert Square this year, part in thanks to the fabulous Kim Fox

15. Not to mention the scene involving Shirley Carter trying to get a cat called Craig Revel Horwood out of a tree.

16. We also got to see a lot more of Linda Carter’s glorious mother Elaine Peacock, whose feud with Aunt Babe has injected a much-needed dose of camp

We haven’t seen a slap like that in Walford since Peggy Mitchell skipped town.

17. And we finally discovered there could be such a thing as a happy ending in Walford...

Even if you are hiding a secret brain tumour from your wife before you move to a different country.
