Paris Teacher Stabbed In Classroom 'Invented The Story', Prosecutor's Office Says

Stabbed French Teacher 'Invented Story' About Paris Classroom Attack

A French nursery teacher who claimed he was attacked by a masked assailant invented the story, the prosecutor's office has been reported said.

The teacher had claimed he was attacked in a Paris classroom by a man citing Islamic State, according to police.

However, it is now understood that the teacher has now told authorities that he inflicted the wounds on himself.

Questions were said to have been raised after the teacher claimed his attacker had said he was carrying out the attack on behalf of 'Daesh' - a term used to described the Islamic State which it considers to be a derogatory.

The 45-year-old had claimed he was stabbed by a man wielding a box cutter and scissors at about 7am in Aubervillers, north of Paris.

He said he was stabbed in the side and throat while preparing for his class at the Jean Perrin d'Aubervilliers school, AFP reported.

The attacker was said to have been wearing painter's overalls and a balaclava.

Initial reports suggested the attacker had shouted: "This is Daesh. This is a warning." Daesh is another name for IS.

The teacher was taken to hospital after making the false allegation.

France's education minister and a local government prefect visited the school in Aubervilliers following this morning's incident and classes at the school were cancelled.

Earlier Monday prefect Philippe Galli told reporters it was too early to draw conclusions about the character of the attack, noting that the assailant, wearing a balaclava, had apparently found his weapons at the school premises, reports The World Post.

The incident comes just one month after the terrorist attacks on the French capital, which claimed the lives of 130 people and left more than 300 injured.

Paris is still on high alert in the wake of the shootings and suicide bombings, which targeted the Bataclan concert hall, a football stadium and restaurants across the capital on Friday, November 13.
