Tamara Ecclestone Defends Breastfeeding 21-Month-Old Daughter Sophia: 'It's Just The Way I Am'

Tamara Ecclestone Defends Breastfeeding 21-Month-Old Daughter

Tamara Ecclestone has revealed she still breastfeeds her 21-month-old daughter Sophia and defended her decision to do so.

The 31-year-old, who has previously come under fire for posting photos of herself breastfeeding on Instagram, said she is using the same parenting style as her mum.

"I'm still feeding her so if she needs to be fed I need to be there," she told new! magazine.

"My mum was like that until we were old enough to understand, and even then she'd only leave us with family. I guess it's just the way I am."

Ecclestone said while it can be difficult to be the only one who feeds Sophia, her husband Jay Rutland is very understanding about how hands-on she is.

She added: "I don't feel comfortable leaving Sophia with anyone in the evenings.

"So long as we do get our time together, [Jay] doesn't mind if we're in the house with a takeaway. It's still just us. If she wakes in the night I want to be there for her."

Tamara Ecclestone sparked an online debate about breastfeeding in public in June by sharing a photo of her feeding her daughter in the water while on holiday in the Bahamas.

The socialite, who had her first child Sophia with husband Jay Rutland in March 2014, was pictured laying back on a rock with her bikini pulled to one side to feed her daughter.

All that swimming is thirsty work 😂

Some people argued the photo was something that should be kept private, which sparked a heated debate.

One woman wrote: "It is beautiful but in the privacy of your own home cover up with a blanket nobody knows the values of having morals.

"No I don't want to see your boob in public neither does my husband we all know it's a beautiful thing and your child has to eat blah blah blah pump before you go out or cover up.

"Nothing in this world is private everyone wants to expose themselves and their baby I don't get it really."

But Ecclestone defended her decision at the time.

Speaking to Lorraine in June, the 30-year-old mum said: "I’m kind of over trying to please anyone, I just do whatever feels right and I think as a mum you just follow your instinct of what feels right to you.

"I thought [the breastfeeding photo] was so cute and I didn’t realise that it was going to cause so much controversy, I didn’t realise that people would have so many opinions on it, I just thought it was a beautiful photograph of the person that I love so much and on holiday and it was a special moment and that was really the only reason to share that picture."
