Three Killed, One Seriously Hurt In Separate New Year Train Incidents

Three people have died and one is in a life-threatening condition after being hit by trains during the first nine hours of the new year.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed incidents at Clapham North, Hayes & Harlington, Burnley and London Paddington.

A BTP spokeswoman said a person was confirmed dead at the scene after being struck by a train at Clapham North Underground station in south London at 3.22am. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a train at Hayes & Harlington station in west London at 4.51am. His death is also being treated as non-suspicious.

The body of a man was found after someone spotted it on the tracks near Towneley level crossing in Burnley, Lancashire, at 8.23am.

A BTP spokeswoman said the death was being treated as unexplained while officers investigate how the man came to be on the tracks. Anyone with information is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40.

Police are also appealing for information after a man was found dead by officers half a mile outside London Paddington station at 8.30am.

A BTP spokeswoman said a passing train driver spotted the body and the incident is being treated as unexplained.
