While David Bowie was already on course to top the albums chart this week, following the recent release of his latest studio album ‘Blackstar’, news of his death On Monday (11 January) has prompted 13 more of his albums to rise up the official Top 100 chart.

A midweek update from the charts company has revealed that ‘Blackstar’ is currently holding its own on the number one spot, while albums including his 2014 release 'Nothing Has Changed’ (currently sat at number seven), are also set to feature in the final countdown.

A further five Bowie albums are in the Top 40, with a 1997 ‘Best Of…’ at 13, 2002 release ‘Best Of Bowie’ at 27, ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’ is at 19 and ‘Hunky Dory’ and ‘Aladdin Sane’ are at 20 and 32 respectively.
Furthermore, a whooping seven more albums are occupying spaces in the Top 41-100 section of the chart.
Thousands of fans around the world paid tribute to the ‘Sound And Vision’ creator when news of his death broke, and on Monday evening, hundreds gathered in his birthplace Brixton for an impromptu street party to honour him.
A number of Bowie’s friends and collaborators also shared their sadness in the wake of his death, and Brian May penned a touching tribute, writing: “He was a fearsome talent, and the loss to Music and Culture from his passing is inestimable.
“In and out of our lives, always challenging and innovative, and… shocking. But this news is hard to take in.
“I had no idea he was close to death. Would like to have said something…
“Very sad. Sincere condolences to his family. But what a life.
“All hail, David Bowie, Star Man, Hero. RIP.”
The final Official Albums Chart will be published on Friday 15 January.
