Acid Attack Survivor Laxmi Saa Becomes Face Of Fashion Brand

Acid Attack Survivor Becomes Face Of Fashion Brand

An acid attack survivor has become the new spokesperson for a fashion brand, in a bid to change "the basic measurement of beauty".

Laxmi Saa, from Delhi, was just 15 when a 32-year-old man threw acid at her for rejecting his offer of marriage.

Now 26, she has become one of India's most outspoken advocates against the unregulated sale of acid, as well as for harsher punishment for the perpetrators of acid attacks.

Saa's new campaign for brand Viva N Diva marks the first time an acid attack survivor has become the face of a fashion campaign.

The campaign, titled 'Face of Courage', is described by the brand as "the story of a brave woman walking away from the mere shortcomings of our society of victim-ism and the basic measurement of beauty."

Viva N Diva are hoping Saa's photoshoot will encourage women who have suffered in any way to feel beautiful too.

Speaking to BBC News, Saa said: "This opportunity to represent an apparel brand was a platform for me to set an example for women like me to be confident and have courage despite their physical appearances.

"This was also a platform for me to send a clear message to criminals that women will not lose courage even after they are attacked with acid to destroy their physical beauty."
